Treliving has been vocal in his desire to have Nylander signed to a long-term extension and today the Leafs' general manager doubled down on his stance.
Nylander has been the runaway best player for Toronto this season and it hasn't been particularly close. You would've been hard pressed to find a Leafs fan who would have predicted this outcome either, which has made it all the more special.
Nylander broke the Maple Leafs franchise record of collecting at least a point in every one of the team's first 17 games. On the season, he has scored 12 goals and 27 points in 19 games, while averaging 20:11 in ice time.
You have to think with the way Nylander is playing, there will be teams willing to give him $11M per season when he hits the open market next summer. Toronto will be in tough fitting this into their cap structure with three players already locked into double digit cap hits along with Morgan Reilly's $7.5M.
