Primary assists get a lot of notoriety in the new NHL, especially since the introduction to analytics. A lot of players tend to stack up secondary assists, which are great, but in the grand scheme of things, primary assists push you into a higher echelon of playmaking.

In Arizona he tallied 99 assists and 135 points in 222 games, in Montreal he registered 71 assists and 116 points in 153 games, in Columbus he tallied 38 assists and 56 points in 107 games, and with the Chicago Blackhawks he registered 31 assists and 49 points in just 60 games before being dealt to Dallas at the trade deadline.
