Auston Matthews is a future NHL captain, but YouTube sensation Logan Paul may have just leaked the information of a captaincy change in Toronto this summer.

It's no secret that Auston Matthews is the best player in Toronto and it would make complete sense that if/when John Tavares moves on, Matthews would be next in line to wear the "C" for the Maple Leafs.
Matthews, who signed an endorsement deal with Logan Paul's Prime sports drink last year, was recently featured in a brief clip on Paul's newest YouTube video "I Challenged The World's #1 Tetris Player (He's 14)". He was introduced as an "NHL captain".
You can see the 15-minute video below:

Matthews was featured for just a few fleeting seconds of the clip, but is very clearly displayed as an NHL captain.
I suppose, if you want to he technical about it, an alternate captain is still an NHL captain of sorts, but typically these players are not referred to as captains.
Tavares has 1 season remaining on his current contract and it's still not even a foregone conclusion that he's back with the Leafs next season (though it is highly likely, given his full NMC).
There's also the possibility that new head coach Craig Berube does what Rick Bowness did when he took over the Jets in Winnipeg. Bowness stripped then captain Blake Wheeler of his captaincy and finally named Adam Lowry captain last fall.
Could we see Matthews named captain sooner than anyone expects? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
