Elliotte Friedman Comments On Leafs-Ristolainen Trade Chatter.
"The Toronto Maple Leafs skated away with a big win against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. After being called out by head coach Sheldon Keefe and teammate Jake Muzzin, the team responded in a big way. Earlier in the day we heard an absolute bombshell from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun. LeBrun reported that the Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres have been discussing a possible trade which would see the Leafs acquire defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen.LeBrun added that because of the salary cap complications, it's deal that would maybe have to wait until summertime. As reputable as LeBrun is, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman really isn't buying it. Friedman says he would be shocked if Toronto made the move because of how highly they value analytics. He adds that Buffalo's asking price on Ristolainen is still very high and doesn't think Toronto would pay up. But doesn't think the Leafs would value Ristolainen enough to pay Buffalo's price. Botterill's price is still very high on Ristolainen. He's trying hard to make trades but doesn't want to make a trade that looks really bad in 3-4 years.
