"The Toronto Maple Leafs were back on the practice ice today as they began preparations for Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Stars.
Auston Matthews was still wearing a red non-contact jersey, but he was able to take part in more team drills that he has over the past days. As of now, it certainly appears that Matthews will miss at least one more game and might not play until Thursday night in Buffalo at the earliest.
Based on today's rushes, it looks like Dominic Moore will draw in on the fourth line over Josh Leivo and Matt Martin. However, as we know, Mike Babcock can definitely change his mind over the next two days.
"I wouldn't look at anything [from today],» Babcock said of the fourth line, per Kristen Shilton of TSN. «I wouldn't try reading my mind, I don't even know what's going on in there."
In other medical news, defenseman Nikita Zaitsev was a no show for today's morning skate after missing Saturday's game with an illness.
"Obviously, didn't bounce back the way we expected so he's seeing the doctor today. Just think it's flu, but (it) wasn't done as quick as we expected,» updated Babcock, per Mark Masters of TSN. "
