Woll's season didn't begin in the best way, being placed on injured reserve the day of the season opener.
Since his return at the end of October, however, Woll and partner Anthony Stolarz have formed what some consider the best tandem in the NHL. In 8 games since returning, Woll has gone 6-2-0 with one shutout and posted a rock solid .923 save percentage and 2.13 GAA.
Unfortunately for Woll, his start on Wednesday against the Nashville Predators could not have started on a worse note.
Just six minutes into the game, Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault dumped the puck in off the end boards, where it took a weird hop. Woll lost sight of it as it came back over the net and landed next to him in the crease.
Unable to locate the puck, Woll dropped into the butterfly only to have Marchessault locate the loose puck next to his pad and poke it into the net before any Leafs player could find it.
It was an unfortunate start for the Leafs and Woll that immediately reminded fans of the 100-foot and 180-foot goals that Jonathan Bernier and Vesa Toskala gave up a number of years ago.
At the end of the first, Marchessault's goal was the difference with the Predators up by one.
