According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Maple Leafs have expressed interest in signing a 3-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews to bolster their depth at center.

While the Leafs were collecting their second straight victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night, GM Brad Treliving continued to explore the market for a third-line center, given the uncertainty surrounding the upper-body injury to captain Auston Matthews.

On Amazon Prime's new 'Coast to Coast' hockey show, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli revealed that 36-year-old Jonathan Toews is looking to resume his NHL career after more than two years away from the game and noted that the Leafs are one of the many teams that have shown interest in the three-time Stanley Cup champion's services.

"Well, I can tell you that at this point, Jonathan Toews has indeed resumed skating, he's feeling the best that he has in years," said Seravalli. "He's also back down to his playing weight. I've been told multiple teams expressed interest in Toews' potential return to his agent, Pat Brisson from CAA Sports... I'm going to give you three teams to keep an eye on if Jonathan Toews does decide to make a comeback bid: One of them is the Toronto Maple Leafs. A third-line centre has been on Brad Treliving's wish list all season long."

Seravalli went on to mention that the Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets have also inquired about Toews' services, but he and his agent, Pat Brisson, are not sure if he will resume his career this season or wait until September. Seravalli also noted that Toews would have to be on a reserve list for an NHL team by the trade deadline on March 7th.

The third-overall pick from the 2006 draft, is almost certainly a first-ballot hall-of-famer with the aforementioned three Stanley Cups as well as World Cup of Hockey Gold, Olympic Gold (x2), World Junior Gold and a Conn Smythe and would provide the Leafs a very reliable and stable presence in the bottom six, should he decide to resume his career this season.
