With training camps kicking off this week and the pre-season on the horizon, teams from around the league have sent prospects to various cities to take part in prospect/rookie tournaments as a bit of a ramp up before camp begins.

We know that the Leafs' top prospects are in Traverse City, taking part in an annual prospect tournament against the host Detroit Red Wings, the Dallas Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets. An approximate 7 hour flight away, the Golden Knights, Ducks, Sharks, Kings, Coyotes and Avalanche are taking part in a prospect tournament of their own in Vegas.

We have yet to see any Leaf prospects drop the gloves in their pair of games against Columbus and Dallas, but we were treated to a heavyweight tilt in Vegas, as Kings prospect Samuel Helenius and Sharks prospect Artem Guryev dropped their gloves and went to war.

When I say heavyweight tilt, I mean HEAVYWEIGHT tilt. Helenius stands 6'6 and 216 lbs, while Guryev stands 6'4 and 220 lbs. Both combatants landed some heavy shots, but as Helenius began to run out of gas, he looked to tangle up the fresher Guryev to avoid taking any extra damage.

Seeing this scrap just got me all amped up for the first Ryan Reaves fight in a Leafs jersey this season. I can hardly wait.
