An update on Auston Matthews
It was a bit of a scary scene on Monday night as Leafs franchise center Auston Matthews lay in the corner, shaken up after catching a fly-by shot to the head following an awkward tumble that inadvertently put him in harms way.
With Leafs Nation waiting with baited breath some news on Matthews' condition after the game, head coach Sheldon Keefe had little to offer to put the fans at ease, but an update after practice on Tuesday had folks feeling a bit better about the situation. Apparently Matthews had visited the Leafs' training facility on Tuesday and appeared to be alright, though Keefe admittedly could not elaborate on whether or not Matthews would take practice on Wednesday - at least not with 100% certainty.
Well, some good news to report from Ford Performance Center on Wednesday as Matthews was indeed geared up and has taken to the ice for practice. So far, he does not appear to be showing any limitations, nor is he wearing a non-contact sweater.
There's still no word on whether or not Matthews will play in Calgary on Thursday, but since he is on the ice for practice, I'd anticipate that we'll have an update on his condition after this morning's session. We'll provide an update as soon as we know more.
