The Toronto Maple Leafs have selected their starting goaltender against the Minnesota Wild, and unfortunately for Matt Murray, he likely won't be tending the twine during his call-up.
Murray was coming off of four straight wins with the Marlies, including back-to-back shutouts prior to his recall, which led to many speculating that he would get back into the crease for the Leafs with Anthony Stolarzstill recovering from knee surgery.
At Wednesday's morning skate, Stolarz and Murray were both on the ice while Joseph Woll did not. Woll not taking part in the morning skate indicates that he will be starting against the Wild on Wednesday night.
This will mark Woll's second consecutive start and tenth in the Leafs' last 13 games. Woll has already surpassed his career-high for season starts and Wednesday will be his 27th start of the season.
Although his numbers have dipped in January, posting a .898 save percentage and 3.01 GAA, he has still been able to secure wins in 6 of his 9 starts this month. The 26-year-old has a 17-9-0 record across his 27 games this season.
The Leafs are hoping to find some consistency in their game before the 4 Nations break after going on streaks of five wins, three losses, three wins and now two losses.
