The plot thickens regarding the Vegas Golden Knights and their trade with the Anaheim Ducks involving winger Evgenii Dadonov and the LTIR contract of Ryan Kesler.

Per several NHL Insiders, the Ducks and Golden Knights submitted a trade to the NHL prior to the 3pm ET deadline that was imposed on Monday. Here are some of the facts that you'll need to know in this story.

1 - The trade was indeed received by the League before the 3pm deadline on Monday.

2 - Dadonov has a 10-team no-trade clause in his contract and the Ducks are listed as one of the 10 teams that he is contractually eligible to block a trade to.

3 - The Golden Knights claim they are unaware of any such NTC and have suggested that the Ottawa Senators did not disclose that detail when they completed the trade to send Dadonov to Vegas.

4 - There are conflicting stories as to whether or not Dadonov submitted his 10-team no-trade list to the Senators in time to ensure that it was valid back on July 1, 2021.

5 - Dadonov and his agent swear that this was done and there should be a paper trail to prove it.

6 - There are serious salary cap implications for the Golden Knights if this trade is ruled invalid.

7 - The NHLPA has now become involved in the dispute.

The fact that this has dragged out for so long after the 3pm ET trade deadline on Monday suggests that there is some truth on both sides of this.

If this ends up being a clerical error on the NHL's part, it could end up costing the Vegas Golden Knights, who are currently running a 19-man roster to remain under the salary cap.

In terms of Evgenii Dadonov, he appears to be the victim in all of this. He negotiated a 10-team no-trade list in his contract and had clearly indicated that he did not want to be sent to Anaheim. The real issue here seems to be the disconnect between the Ottawa Senators and the Vegas Golden Knights. If Ottawa did not disclose the NTC and the NHL did not catch it either, should the Golden Knights really be on the hook if the trade is voided?

Perhaps some sort of an exemption could be made to reduce or eliminate any cap penalties the Golden Knights may face as a result if they exceed the cap. At this point it appears more likely than not that the trade is voided. We'll likely know more later in the day on Tuesday.
