Last week, Sheldon Keefe was asked why Ilya Samsonov had not been made available to the media. He responded by asking if they (the media) had been speaking with Vasilevskiy. Obviously they had not been speaking with Vasilevskiy, as he hasn't been made available for comment by the Lightning, but that has come to an end today as The 2-time Stanley Cup winner spoke with the media about his play and the Leafs' gameplan through the first 4 games of the series so far. The Leafs have been firing an abnormal number of shots from up high, near the blueline, with traffic in front of the goal, looking for screens, tips and rebounds on the typically solid Vasilevskiy - something that has worked really well for them.
"I'm 100% sure that it's a the game plan for them and so far they've been executing that plan very well. Lots of screens, tips, deflections.
We didn't get much luck on tips and bounces as well. I'll give them a credit they've, they've been pretty good. So we have to work harder and just take a deep breath and just play one game and then we'll see where the game will take us," said Vasilevskiy. On what he can do to see through the traffic in front of the net, Vasilevskiy showed that his sense of humour hasn't been damaged. "Buy myself like (expletive) x-ray glasses."
Through four games, Vasilevskiy has a GAA of 4.33 and a save percentage of .856, both of which are fourth worst among playoff goalies. Can he find his game ahead of game 5 tomorrow night in Toronto, or will the Leafs continue to execute their gameplan?
