There was so much talk that it was a topic of discussion at the GM meetings earlier this week. Sportsnet's Elliotte Freidman noted in his most recent edition of 32 Thoughts that one GM blamed Kucherov for this being an issue, stating "if he hadn't bragged about it after winning the cup and sold '18 million over the cap shirts', it would not be a topic of conversation".
Fair point to the GM, but Kucherov only started bragging about it after opposing teams' fans called the Lightning out about it. So it seems unfair to blame it on Kucherov, who was merely steering into the skid.
The other point brought up is that the NHL really does not want to give up something to have this implemented in the CBA. As it is part of the CBA, any change to the cap would have to be approved by the PA and the ask from the players to implement it would likely be something drastic.
Should they not be able to reach an agreement on it, if it were discussed, there could be another lockout - which is the last thing anyone wants at this point. By the sounds of it, more discussions will be had over the off-season, but it seems highly unlikely that anything changes.
