At the start of free agency, Subban was widely considered a top-3 defenseman on the market. Unfortunately, he has painted himself into a bit of a corner, only wanting to sign a deal with a contending team and preferring a short-term deal.
Now that many teams have moved on and sought solutions elsewhere, Subban finds himself without a home next season deep into August, with training camps fast approaching. It's now looking more and more likely that Subban will have to be a little more flexibile.
According to TSN's Bruce Garrioch on a recent Senators Podcast, the Ottawa Senators were one of the interested teams, but Subban's demands didn't suit the Sens' needs.
There are reports currently circulating that the San Jose Sharks could be a potential landing spot for Subban, but their status as a non-contender may ultimately be a deal breaker for the veteran blueliner. I wonder if the Sens circle back here since they weren't able to secure any real help on the blueline.
