There will be quite a few new faces in Toronto this season and Auston Matthews has wasted no time in making one of his new teammates feel welcomed. Matthews, who recently inked a 4-year extension worth $13.25M per season, was spotted out on the town on Saturday night at an event with Max Domi.
Domi and Matthews have a bit of a pre-existing relationship, stemming back to when Matthews was still a teenager in Arizona, attending skates with several Coyotes players, including a young Max Domi, shortly after he was drafted by Arizona.
Domi has been brought to Toronto to help produce some secondary scoring. The 2nd generation NHLer, and son of Leafs legend Tie Domi, is a very underrated playmaker and could certainly help increase offensive contributions from within the Leafs' middle six.
There is a strong belief that Domi will, in fact, begin the season on the wing and could slot in next to John Tavares and William Nylander on the 2nd line or at 3rd line LW, alongside David Kampf. However, something nobody is really talking about is the possibility that Domi could also get a look next to Auston Matthews and former London Knights teammate Mitch Marner on the Leafs' top line. Domi is not all that far removed from a 70-point season on Montreal's top line.
