Auston Matthews has been a pretty quick riser for the Leafs in terms of chasing and breaking franchise records for one of the oldest and most storied franchises in the NHL. Now, on New Year's Eve, he sits just 3 points away from a major career milestone and a brand new Leafs franchise record.

A year after scoring 60 goals and setting a new franchise record for the highest single-season goal total, Matthews is currently sitting at 497 career points in just 443 career NHL games, just 3 shy of the 500-point mark. What's even more impressive is that he'll be the quickest to 500 points in Maple Leafs history when he does it - hopefully tonight!

Aside from the records that Matthews has already broken in his 6 and a half seasons in Toronto, he's also 5th all-time in power play goals (71), 5th all-time in game-winning goals (48), 8th all-time in goals (276), 7th all-time in even strength goals (205) and 7th all-time in hat-tricks (7). With a season and a half remaining on his current contract, he'll have a legitimate shot at moving up the on a lot of these lists, but if he wants to go down as the greatest player in Leafs history, he'll have to put pen to paper on a brand new contract if he wants to break them all and establish lofty new records for future generations to try and break.
