Auston Matthews has been among the Leafs' leaders in hits this season, coming into Saturday night's tilt against the Sabres 3rd in hits on the team, behind only Rasmus Sandin and Justin Holl.

Matthews leveled Sabres forward Casey Mittelstadt with a questionable hit during the second period and was penalized for an illegal check to the head. He continued his physical play in the 3rd as well with this massive hit on Jeff Skinner.

The 25-year-old continues to evolve and add more layers to his game, which should certainly help the Leafs come playoff time. As exciting as Matthews is to watch already, adding in these types of hits is also fun for the fans, who will have more reasons to applaud #34 if he continues to use his 6'3, 220-pound frame to lay the boom.
