Leafs superstar Auston Matthews can add one to the blooper reel after a strange third period play during Thursday's matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Unfortunately, however, the play resulted in an injury.

Matthews was attempting to take a sharp angle around the Leafs net to try to get inside on Sidney Crosby, who was pursuing the puck. The only problem was that he leaned in a little too soon and smashed face directly off of the crossbar.

After colliding with the crossbar, Matthews went straight down the tunnel and to the Leafs dressing room holding his face.

The Arizona product may have booked himself a ticket to the dentist's chair. That looked painful, but he did return in the final 5 minutes to finish the third period.

Matthews tied Chris Kreider for the league lead in goals with his 33rd to open the scoring against the Pens in the first period.
