At first it was a bit of a surprise when news got out that Avalanche released former Leaf Alex Galchenyuk from his PTO contract so soon. This afternoon, Avs Head Coach Jared Bednar clarified the situation.
After reinventing himself in Toronto a couple of seasons ago, Galchenyuk decided to take more money and go to Arizona last season where he put up just 6 goals and 21 points in 60 games. With the Avs tight against the cap, Galchenyuk had an opportunity to earn a spot in the team's bottom six and it was looking like he may have had the inside track until his injury.
