According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, the Calgary Flames are currently finalizing a deal to move center Sean Monahan and are expected to announce the Nazem Kadri signing imminently.
There were rumours floating around that Kadri had agreed to terms on a 7-year deal worth approximately $7M per season with the New York Islanders that the two sides were waiting to announce until Isles GM Lou Lamoriello had completed his offseason work and freed up enough cap space to make everything fit. Apparently those rumours were completely false.
What a turnaround for the Flames after losing Johnny Gaudreau to free agency and trading Matthew Tkachuk. It's not a sure thing, but it's looking like Calgary may come into the 2022-23 season better on paper than they did in 2021-22.
What a crazy situation. It's even more wild, considering the fact that Kadri blocked a trade from Toronto to Calgary a few seasons back. The deal is expected to be in the 7-year, $7M AAV range.
