There has been much discussion about the long-term contracts given out, and one forward in particular that this will affect next offseason is David Pastrňák. On Monday afternoon, Bruins Reporter Ty Anderson shared a tweet where he recalled some of his conversation with Bruins GM Don Sweeney before camp. When Anderson asked Sweeney if the big money deals handed out this offseason had an effect on the Pastrňák negotiations, the Bruins GM said:
This could mean that all of the big money deals handed out this offseason could affect Pastrňák's asking price. Anderson went on to suggest Pastrňák's asking price could be $10.5M AAV or higher, implying it has increased with Barzal's and other players extensions. It's worth noting that Barzal has not produced at a point per game pace in any of the last four seasons.
Pastrňák is entering the final year of his six year, $6.67M AAV deal. Since entering the league in 2014-2015, The Czech Forward has reached the 30-goal plateau five times, which includes seasons with 40 and 48 goal totals. Pastrňák is no doubt one of the best wingers in the game, and will be 27 years old by next offseason, making him one of the biggest names available in free agency.
Time will tell what kind of contract Pastrňák will end up getting, and from who, but there is no doubt that it will be quite lucrative.
