Breaking: NHLPA votes out Director Donald Fehr
After the independent investigative report of how the Kyle Beach incident was handled was released to the public a couple weeks ago, players were split over the findings and what should happen with Director Donald Fehr. Many of the players were not pleased that the findings found no wrongdoing of anyone but rather a miscommunication between many people. In other words, blame was passed around so much that not a single person could be blamed. Based on the evidence in the report however, many of the players felt the blame laid solely on the shoulders of Fehr.
It was unclear when the findings were released about how the players would proceed with both the recommendations made in the report and Fehr as the Director. The players have made up their mind as the NHLPA released a statement this evening stating that Donald Fehr will no longer be the Director of the NHLPA and that a search for a new Director will begin immediately.
This could be a very good thing for the players as the younger generation will have the ability to weed out one or more of the "old boys club" as candidates and select someone that actually will have their best interests in mind. Additionally, it will give the players access to someone that is more in tune with current players, what their needs and wants are and how the game is currently played.
