The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly on the verge of acquiring Ben Bishop from the Dallas Stars in a salary cap related move, according to NHL Insider Kevin Weekes. While Bishop announced his retirement during last season, his contract still counts towards the cap and it would've put the Stars in a difficult position given they have to hand out big contracts to Jake Ottinger, John Klingberg and Jason Robertson and the $14M in cap space would not have been enough to accommodate all three.

The move helps both teams, as it gives Dallas more cap space and it also brings Buffalo closer to the cap floor, which they are currently $19M below before the trade is processed. Buffalo will also be able to acquire another pick, prospect or NHL ready player in the trade to help move their rebuild further along. The Sabres only have 15 players under contract for next season with no goalies currently signed. Buffalo will have no issue hitting the cap floor, but will likely hover around it for this season as they fill their roster with serviceable, low cost NHLers and prospects.

Get ready Sabres fans, you're in for another long and painful season.
