Definitely a bad time for "The Great Dane" to go down with an injury with the playoffs just around the corner, but Canes head coach Rod Brind'Amour had a bit of an update on the 32-year-old netminder on Monday.
Per Brind'Amour, Andersen is going to miss at least one week of action, possibly more. The team will re-evaluate the Danish goaltender next week, at which time a further update will be given.
I suppose it's good news that Brind'Amour did not suggest that it could be a longer-term injury. As we saw last week when Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry went down with an injury, the Pens were pretty quick to put a week-to-week timetable on his recovery, rather than just a day-to-day timeline.
Andersen continues to struggle with his lower-body health, as is often the case with veteran goaltenders. Andersen starts a lot of games, so the wear and tear likely hits him a lot harder than goalies who play less - especially at his age.
In 52 appearances this season, Andersen has posted a .922 save% and a 2.17 GAA, both vast improvements over his time in Toronto, though the Canes play a might tighter defensive game than the Leafs have in recent years.
