Reports have surfaced over the last week that Giroux has indeed made his preferred destinations known to Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher. It was reported that Giroux favours Denver above all other destinations, but that he would also consider a move to St. Louis or Minnesota also. Unfortunately, straight from Giroux himself, those reports have been refuted.
Giroux said on Wednesday. He also reiterated that he has enjoyed being a Flyer and stressed how much he values the organization that he's been with since the very beginning. Giroux was drafted 22nd overall back in 2006 by the Flyers.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Giroux will remain in Philadelphia past the deadline, or that he will re-sign with the Flyers in the summer if he does leave. The fact remains that the Flyers are facing a potential rebuild and the 34-year-old likely wants to compete for a Stanley Cup in the limited time that he has left in the NHL.
Giroux could very well end up in Colorado despite today's comments, but there are a number of other locations that make sense as well. I'm sure there will be some more clarity after Giroux has a chance to sit down with GM Chuck Fletcher to discuss his future.
