The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to welcome long-time Leaf and fan favourite Zach Hyman back to Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday, but one member of the Oilers who may not be in the lineup is generational talent Connor McDavid.

McDavid was held out of practice on Tuesday with what the team is calling a "COVID-related issue". This could be catastrophic for the Oilers, who are already struggling even with the best player in the world in the lineup.

To compound the issue, the Oilers are also missing another former first overall pick in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. With both RNH and McDavid potentially sidelined, the Oilers will be forced to roll with Leon Draisaitl, Ryan McLeod, Derek Ryan, and Devin Shore as their top four centers.

What's worse for the Oilers if McDavid can't go is that Leafs superstar Auston Matthews, who was originally thought to be ineligible to play due to a positive rapid COVID test, is now eligible to play after producing a negative PCR test on Tuesday, confirming a false positive on Monday.

McDavid leads the league in points (53), assists (34), and power play points (22) in just 33 games for the Oilers this season. Despite McDavid's superb offensive play, it just keeps getting worse for the Oilers, who have lost 4 consecutive games and 10 of their last 12.
