In the midst of an Edmonton Oilers 5-game losing streak, and a literal free fall in the standings, Connor McDavid doesn't care about character. He cares about winning hockey games.

The Oilers seem to be the front runner in the Evander Kane "sweepstakes", if you can call it that. Ken Holland has declared interest, and now so has his franchise center.

Asked at a media session today McDavid said, »Evander is an amazing player. He's had lots of success over the last couple of years and whatever else has been going on is not something that I look into much.»

When pressed further, McDavid said "The public opinion is something that matters a lot, but we're here to try to win games, and try to put together a good team on the ice. And if Kenny thinks that's what he can do, that's what he can do.»

When another reporter asked about optics McDavid elaborated that he's not exactly concerned with anything other than what happens on the ice.

"I'm not really here to discuss optic issues. If fans don't like it, or the media doesn't like it, whatever. It is what it is. I'm sure there's lots that goes on on the ice and whatnot that fans don't like, and we don't necessarily have to discuss those up here with you guys,"

These are strong words from the once in a generation talent. The controversial Kane definitely will appreciate these words, should he land in Edmonton, even if a large portion of hockey fans don't.
