The Leafs had long been rumoured to have had interest in Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg. However, according to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Klingberg may not be available in Dallas at all.
The Leafs had already made a move to address a need on the right side with the acquisition of Ilya Lyubushkin on February 20th, but a rumour this past week had suggested that the Leafs and GM Kyle Dubas had circled back to Dallas and had a conversation with Stars GM Jim Nill on the offensive defenseman. Very curious indeed.
With Jake Muzzin sidelined, presumably until the postseason, the Leafs may require some help on the left side rather than on the right - especially with the recent spike in production and improved play from Justin Holl. As we know, a left-shot defender is a lot easier to find than a right-shot defender.
