Dzingel, who was originally acquired by the Leafs in the Nick Ritchie/Ilya Lyubushkin trade, had been waived by the Leafs back on February 21st in hopes of him clearing so that he could be assigned to the AHL Toronto Marlies. Dzingel would have been a decent depth option for the Buds for their playoff run. He did not clear, however. Dzingel was claimed by the Sharks on February 22nd.
Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Dzingel went unclaimed this time around, so he'll now be eligible to be assigned to the San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks' AHL affiliate.
What does this mean? Well, it likely means that Leafs GM Kyle Dubas either believes that the Leafs have some internal options that would be ahead of Dzingel on the Leafs' depth chart. The other possibility is that Dubas and company are in the process of negotiating a trade with another team that will end up filling a similar depth need for the Leafs, negating the need for Dzingel.
