Well, we knew the dam was going to break sooner than later and mere hours after the Florida Panthers moved Frank Vatrano to the New York Rangers to clear some cap space, they made a splash, acquiring defenseman Ben Chiarot from the Montreal Canadiens.

Chiarot was one of the league's top trade deadline targets and there were reportedly no shortage of suitors for the 30-year-old blueliner. Apparently Calgary, New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Toronto were in the mix.

The Panthers are not the only team who made a move on Wednesday evening, as the Calgary Flames are also believed to have acquired forward Calle Jarnkrok from the Seattle Kraken.

The Leafs were also rumoured to have had interest in Jarnkrok, so it will be interesting to see whether or not GM Kyle Dubas increases his efforts to address some of his roster needs before the players on his wish list are parted out elsewhere.
