It's now been a full year since Zach Hyman left Toronto to pursue a deal out West with the Edmonton Oilers and now he'll have a familiar face joining him as another former Leaf, goaltender Jack Campbell will depart Toronto and head to Edmonton to tend the twine for the next 5 seasons.
During an appearance at a Marner Assist Foundation event this week, Hyman had a chance to speak with the Leafs media for the first time in ages and after a quick, fun little exchange with TSN's Mark Masters, Hyman was asked about Campbell and what his involvement was in helping to bring Soupy to Edmonton. Hyman admitted that he did speak with GM Ken Holland about Campbell and that he's thrilled to have Soup joining him out West.
"I have nothing but good things to say about Soup [Campbell], and I think, first and foremost, you want to be around guys who are just fantastic individuals and have high character. Everyone here knows how highly respected he is in the locker room and among the media, among his fans. Obviously, he's such a great goalie, so I just spoke pretty highly [about Campbell to management] and I'm happy that it ended up working out."
Campbell joins a list of former Leafs in Edmonton that includes Hyman, Cody Ceci, Tyson Barrie, Calvin Pickard, Seth Griffith and former Leafs draft pick Greg McKegg.
