Aube-Kubel has seemingly kicked things up a notch in the physicality department, in an attempt to prove that he belongs in the NHL rather than the AHL, where he was likely bound to be sent had he cleared waivers on November 5th. Unfortunately, he crossed a line on Friday and appears destined for a hearing with the Department of Player Safety after clipping Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Cal Foote with an illegal check to the head early in the 2nd period of Friday's game. He was ejected as a result.
There may be more supplemental discipline coming out of this one as well, as Patrick Maroon appeared to have come off the Tampa bench to fight Washington's Garnet Hathaway. Perhaps you'll recall what happened when former Leaf David Clarkson hopped off the bench to fight Buffalo's John Scott, who went after Phil Kessel back in 2013. Clarkson was slapped with a 10-game suspension. We're likely to see something similar for Maroon if he did indeed come off the bench to fight.
