Former Toronto Maple Leaf Peter Holland has ended the career of a player in Sweden. While playing for the Djurgardens IF of the SHL, Holland engaged with Fredrik Styrman in front of the net. Holland appears to drop his gloves immediately, while Stryman kept his on. This did not stop Holland from delivering an upper cut to the face of the Stryman, knocking him down to the ice. The video is available below:

The punch earned Holland a four game suspension. As for Stryman, he missed the remainder of the season with concussion like symptoms. Yesterday, following his doctor's advice, he announced his retirement from hockey, still dealing with post-concussion syndrome.

Peter Holland was originally drafted in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks, 15th overall, in the 2009 NHL entry draft. After spending parts of five seasons with the Ducks organization, he was traded to Toronto, along with Brad Staubitz, in exchange for defensemen prospect Jesse Blacker, a 3rd and a 7th round draft pick.

Holland stayed with the Leafs organization for parts of four seasons before being traded to the Coyotes for a conditional sixth round draft pick on December 9th, 2016. From there, he bounced between leagues for the following six years, playing in the NHL, AHL, KHL and SHL.

On March 16th, 2022, he announced his retirement from hockey via twitter. In 266 career NHL games, Holland was able to record 85 points (36 goals & 49 assists).
