Many people believed that Kyle Dubas paid too high of a price in July when he sent a first round pick to Chicago along with Petr Mrazek to get out from the remaining 2 years of Mrazek's deal. The Leafs got a second round pick in return that they used to select Fraser Minten and freed up 2 years at $3.8M in cap space per season. That cap space was used to acquire Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov, who have proved the doubters wrong so far this season. Both have performed beyond expectations when healthy.

Since April of 2021, the former Leaf has found himself on the IR with groin issues six different times. Today, he was placed on the IR by the Hawks for the second time this season with a groin injury.

So far this season, Mrazek has appeared in just four games for the Hawks, where he has an abysmal 4.05 GAA and .884 save percentage. With an additional season at $3.8M remaining on his contract, it is unlikely that the Hawks will find a taker for the oft-injured goalie unless they want to part with one of their 8 first or second round picks over the next two drafts.
