The San Jose Sharks announced today that former Toronto Maple Leaf Scott Harrington has signed a one-year contract with the team following a PTO that he signed on September 9th. General Manager Mike Grier felt Harrington was the right fit for the organization moving forward:
"Scott came into camp on a tryout, performed well, and earned his contract. He's a high character person and we are excited to have him join the Sharks"
-Mike Grier on Harrington's performance at Sharks camp
Harrington, 29, is looking to find his footing again in the NHL. He has bounced between the NHL and the AHL since the beginning of his career in 2014. After being drafted 54th overall by the Penguins in 2011, Harrington has since played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and, more recently, has spent six years with the Columbus Jackets. Over his eight-year NHL career, Harrington has registered 7 goals, 31 assists, and 38 total points in 210 NHL Games.
As the Sharks have faced significant changes within the organization on and off the ice, an opening had been created on the blue line. Harrington's six-foot-two frame provides the Sharks with a big body on the left side and on the PK.
For the Sharks, Harrington will be a fantastic depth piece to add to their lineup. He's no Brent Burns, but he'll look to help make up for what the Sharks lost in Burns by committee.
