An AHL player with the Manitoba Moose could be looking at a lengthy suspension this weekend after swinging his stick in frustration and catching an unsuspecting official in the face.

The incident occurred on Friday after Manitoba's Evan Polei was assessed a minor penalty. He was pleading his case to the referee on his way to the penalty box, but his words were falling on deaf ears. Out of frustration, Polei wound up to hammer his stick against the boards, but caught a linesman up high with his backswing, sending him to the ice in a world of hurt.

Polei was assessed a game misconduct and ejected, once again swinging his stick out of frustration on his way off the ice, throwing it into the stands. Yes, the play was accidental, but players are responsible for what they do with their sticks. Polei may have been acting on pure emotion, but that's no excuse for clipping an official.
