Originally, Amirov had been expected to resume skating and training with a late-October, early-November return in mind. Unfortunately, a return was unable to occur due to some unfavourable results from a recent wave of tests that forced another wave of treatments as Amirov continues to deal with a brain tumor at just 21 years-of-age.
"With Rodion, the issue is more complicated," said Bashirov on Friday. "He is going through a difficult period of treatment. Then there will be another treatment for three weeks. I can't say when he will return. The situation is serious. He really wants to return. We are in touch with him," Bashirov continued.
This is truly heartbreaking news - this just one day after the passing of Leafs legend Borje Salming, who was fighting a losing battle with ALS. Hopefully Amirov is able to continue fighting and that the results of his next wave of tests following his upcoming treatments will yield some more positive results.
All we can do is offer our support, prayers, thoughts and positivity during this unfathomable time. No 21-year-old should have to endure this kind of battle. We're all hoping for the best possible outcome and hockey is a secondary thought at this point. Everyone's just hoping that Amirov can beat this horrible hand that he's been dealt.
Leafs Nation is behind you, Rodion.
