On the first day of training camp for the Montreal Canadiens there were some notable absences. Those include two of their top six forwards and one of their top four defenceman.

The Habs have noted that Josh Anderson will be day-to-day with an upper body injury and the same can be said for Jake Evans. However, the two most notable absences are newly named captain Nick Suzuki who will be out at least 2 weeks with a lower body injury and defenceman Joel Edmundson. Edmundson is also dealing with a lower body injury but his appears to be significantly worse than Suzuki's as he is listed as "out indefinitely".

It's a tough start for the Habs who were looking to take a step forward after finishing in the basement last season. While Suzuki will be back for the beginning of the season, along with Evans and Anderson, it is unknown how much time Edmundson will miss. Additionally, the Habs were unable to provide an update on Sean Monahan, who has resumed skating but a return timeline is still unclear.
