When Jonathan Huberdeau was traded to Calgary as part of the Matthew Tkachuk deal, many Montreal Canadiens fans thought he would play out the final year of his contract and jump ship to play for his home province Habs. Unfortunately for Habs fans, that dream was short-lived as Huberdeau inked an 8-year extension with the Flames shortly after arriving in Calgary.

As players like Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk left for "family reasons" and the obvious tax breaks they get in Columbus and Florida, Huberdeau was the opposite and wanted to play for a team that showed loyalty and commitment. As he said in his own words, if the Habs really wanted him, they would've traded for him.

"I know a lot of people were saying that: 'Play one year [in Calgary] and then play for Montreal," Huberdeau told the 32 Thoughts podcast.

"As much as love Montreal, I dunno. I think it's a tough city for a French- Canadian. Calgary traded for me. If Montreal wanted to trade for me, they would've traded for me. That's how see it. And want to play for a team that wants me. Calgary wanted me, so that's why I wanted to sign a big extension."

Sorry, not sorry, Habs fans.
