Hulking Avs defenseman falls over drunk, drops the Stanley Cup from about 8 or 9 feet
With Stanley Cup celebrations having been under way since Sunday, it did not take long for the iconic trophy to begin taking a beating. Perhaps you'll recall Nicolas Aube-Kubel's infamous spill with the Cup in Tampa, sliding in for the team photo.
Well, I'm sure there were many bumps for hockey's greatest prize over the course of the week, but perhaps none more substantial than the one delivered by Avs depth defenseman Kurtis MacDermid during last night's festivities after the Stanley Cup parade in Denver.
Thankfully, this Cup is the celebratory Stanley Cup and not the historic one. This one is fitted with a new base each year and is also repaired every year after teams have their way with it. Still, nothing will drop your jaw quite like watching a 6-foot-5, 233-pound defenseman topple over like a giant redwood with the Cup over his head, falling from likely around 8 or 9 feet high.
