Insane ending to the Jets game highlights poor officiating once again

Friday matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets was not only the return of former Jets Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic, but it was also the scene one of the strangest endings to any game game of the 2021-22 season.

At the end of the third frame, with the Jets up 3-2, Jets captain Blake Wheeler whipped the puck down the ice and into the empty Blue Jackets net, an important insurance marker for the Jets - or so it seemed. Thanks to a slash from Jets defender Josh Morrissey, the play was ruled no goal and the Jackets were issued a power play with under 20 seconds left in the game.

Morrissey had been hit from behind and retaliated with a slash that the officials did catch to negate Wheeler's empty-netter. A very unpopular decision among the fans and the Jets' bench.

Like clockwork, the Blue Jackets converted on the very brief power play to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime.

Thankfully for the Jets, Nikolaj Ehlers came into the overtime period with a chip on his shoulder and secured the victory for Winnipeg to avoid an absolute meltdown.
