The news keeps breaking left, right and centre with the NHL draft just hours away. First, the Colorado Avalanche acquired goaltender Alexander Georgiev from the New York Rangers for a trio of picks. There was a thought that the Avs could go with a Georgiev/Kuemper tandem. Well, that isn't the case.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has reported that Darcy Kuemper will be testing the free-agent market. Pagnotta added to the tweet, saying that you can expect the Maple Leafs to be among the teams to pursue the 32-year-old netminder seriously.

Kuemper is coming off a Stanley Cup-winning season with the Avalanche in 2021-22. In 16 playoff games, Kuemper went 10-4 with a 2.57 GAA, and a .902 save percentage. Kuemper is one of many goaltenders connected to the Maple Leafs, alongside Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN) and Matt Murray (OTT).

With Kuemper going to free agency, he will be a goalie teams will call on, and if you're the Maple Leafs, you do whatever you can to get a goalie like Kuemper to sign with your team, provided that the cost isn't prohibitive. Kuemper is just one of many options Kyle Dubas will have on the open market, but there are still several options available to him via trade as well.
