Early this morning, unrestricted free agent defenseman Keith Yandle has announced his retirement from the NHL at the age of 36. The former long-time Coyote holds the longest Ironman record of playing the most consecutive games with a total of 989.

Drafted 105th overall in the fourth round of the 2005 draft by the then Phoenix Coyotes, Keith Yandle was a solid offensive weapon for the Yotes and played a big part in their core until he was traded after nine seasons in the 2014-2015 season to the New York Rangers along with Chris Summers and a forth round pick in the 2016 NHL entry draft for Anthony Duclair, John Moore and a first round pick in 2016 (which turned out to be Dennis Cholowski) and a second round pick (which ended up being Oliver Kylington)

Yandle would play for the Rangers for a season and a bit before being traded to the Florida Panthers for a 2016 sixth round pick and a 2017 forth round pick. After playing for the Panthers for five seasons, the "Ironman" would sign with the Philadelphia Flyers on July 28th, 2021 and played 77 games until being benched towards the end of the season to make space for younger players.

Playing 989 games consecutively is not an easy feat and to do it in such an evolving game is quite impressive. Yandle will finish his career with a total of, 1109 games played 103 goals and 516 assists for 619 points. We wish Yandle the best in his retirement and hopefully we will see him, return in a management position in the future.
