Jack Campbell now the betting favourite to win a major award
The Toronto Maple Leafs are flying this season, boasting a 21-8-2 record through their first 31 games of the season, and a lot of that has to do with the stellar play of goaltender Jack Campbell.
Campbell currently leads the NHL in goals against average (1.86) and save percentage (.939). He also sits 2nd in shutouts with 4 on the season, and 4th in wins with 16. Simply put, Campbell has played his way into the Vezina Trophy conversation.
While Soupy will certainly have some stiff competition in the Vezina Trophy race, TSN's Mike Johnston reported on Wednesday that Campbell has pulled into the lead for betting odds to win the award this season.
Campbell had opened the season as a +2200 to win the award. That number has since dropped to +400, making him the most likely to walk home with the honour - as long as the voting comes down on his side of the fence.
Imagine being one of the few who tossed down a some cash on Campbell to win the Vezina this season after his sensational run and postseason last year when the odds were at +2200.
The 29-year-old is 16-5-2 this season heading into Wednesday's matchup with the struggling Edmonton Oilers. If Campbell can pull off the win, he can move into a tie for 2nd place in wins with
Frederik Andersen (CAR) and Jusse Saros (NSH) at 17.
