This summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs and UFA goaltender Jack Campbell were unable to come to terms on a new deal, which resulted in Campbell signing a 5-year, $25M deal with the Edmonton Oilers, which carries a $5M AAV. The move was looked at as a shrewd one by Oilers GM Ken Holland, as Campbell was viewed as a considerable upgrade over both Mike Smith and the departed Mikko Koskinen.

Through his first two games as an Edmonton Oiler, Campbell has looked mediocre at best. He's given up 7 goals in two games, including 4 on 11 shots against Calgary last night. That gives him a save percentage of .851 and a 5.98 GAA.

While he did make some key saves in the Oilers' opening season win against the Canucks, Campbell also gave up 2 goals on his first four shots in that game as well. He has been anything but consistent through two games and is among the league-worst when it comes to goals save above expected.

As you can see from the chart, Campbell ranks 51st out of 55 goalies that have played so far this season with a -2.5GSAx. Not exactly worth $5M per season. The Oilers better hope they clean up their defensive miscues and that Campbell figures out his game, otherwise it's going to be a very long and cold winter in Alberta.
