During some late afternoon action between the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, things got heated between Devils defender P.K. Subban and Isles forward Oliver Wahlstrom.

In the early stages of the 2nd period, Wahlstrom stepped into Devils superstar Jack Hughes and absolutely levelled him after Hughes had played the puck along the side boards in the Isles' zone.

With the play coming back the other way, Subban saw everything unfold in front of him and took exception to the hit, going right after Wahlstrom and delivering some haymakers on the Isles forward, who is definitely not known for his fighting prowess.

All Wahlstrom could do was try to cover up as best he could and turtle to the incoming shots from Subban. While the hit did not appear to be a dirty one, another angle showed a that Wahlstrom had led with the knee.

After the Jay Beagle/Troy Terry situation this week, there has been a lot of talk about the scrappy players going after skilled players and whether or not it's the ethical thing to do. I'm sure Subban will take some heat for it, but I'm also sure that Hughes felt good knowing that someone had his back.
