There's no doubt that this season was a particularly tough one for Arizona Coyotes defender Jakob Chychrun. Not only was his team anchored to the depths of the standings yet again, but the 24-year-old blueliner played just 47 games this season due to injury, posting a career low 21 points and a forgettable -20 rating. Add to that the fact that the Yotes found out this season that they'd be calling a collegiate arena home next season, and sharing it with the ASU Sun Devils, and you'd imagine that he can't wait to get out.

Well, straight from the horse's mouth, that is not the case. On Saturday, Chychrun revealed that he would not be upset if he remained in Arizona this year, despite the fact that he wants a chance to compete in the postseason. He seems to like the direction that the team is going in.

"I don't know. I'm signed for 3 more years. The trajectory of where the team is going & a lot of that stuff is important to me. I want to be in a position where I'm getting to play a week from now, not packing up."

The Leafs were rumoured to have kicked tires on Chychrun earlier this season and there was a ton of speculation that GM Kyle Dubas could try to swing a deal to aquire the skilled blueliner at the trade deadline. Obviously, that's not the way things went down, with the Leafs instead making a move for veteran Mark Giordano. That move has worked out pretty well so far.

Who knows what will happen with Chychrun, as he does not have trade protection this year or next. His fate is really in the hands of GM Bill Armstrong. Chychrun does, however, trigger his modified NTC prior to the 2023-24 season, which will allow him to submit a 10-team no trade list, so if the Yotes do decide they'd like to move him, they'd likely get the best return if they pulled off a deal prior to next summer.
