There was a time in the world's premiere motorcycle racing series, MotoGP, where certain riders elevated themselves above the rest, to the point where the mere mortals filling out the rest of the pack simply didn't stand a chance. Fans and media simply referred to the likes of Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo and the legendary Valentino Rossi as "aliens." Thanks to that, when I see Auston Matthews play hockey, "Alien" is the word that comes to mind.

There are things that Auston Matthews can do that we mere mortals cannot fathom. Matthews broke two records in Thursday night's game. Most goals in a season by a Toronto Maple Leaf, and Most goals in a season by an American born player. Those records had stood for 40 and 30 years respectively.

What's better than watching Auston Matthews break two records in one game? Watching him do it with the voice of the Maple Leafs, Joe Bowen making the play calls. So without further ado, here they are.

Goal number 55 on the season, a sizzling one timer on the powerplay off of a pass from number 55, Mark Giordano. This one moved Matthews into sole possession of the single season goal scoring record for Leafs players, and tied the record for most by an American born player.

Goal number 56 on the season and the OT winner. A power move off the rush across the net that neither Tyler Seguin or Scott Wedgewood had a chance of stopping. Matthews was not to be denied. This one moved him into sole posession of the record for most goals in a season by an American born player.

That second goal was what brought the MotoGP "Alien" reference to mind. If Auston Matthews decides the puck is going in, its going in. There is nothing you can do about it. This man is not human like the rest of us, and as Joe said "What a treat it is to watch this kid"
