Leafs winger Ondrej Kase was the unfortunate recipient of a huge open ice hit, courtesy of Calgary Flames defender Nikita Zadorov towards the end of the first period of Thursday's meeting between Toronto and Calgary.

While the TSN broadcast team was quick to label the hit a clean one, due to the fact that Kase had just received the pass and was eligible to be hit, a few replays from a different angle appear to show the head as the main point of contact. It will be interesting to see if the league takes a look at this one.

Kase was able to make it back to his feet and skated off the ice and straight down the tunnel to the Leafs' dressing room. He was not on the bench to start the second period and shortly after the period started, it was announced that Kase was done for the night.

The Leafs are certainly right to take a cautious approach with Kase, who has a history of concussions. The Leafs next play in Vancouver on Saturday. My assumption is that, if there is no update on Kase following Thursday's game or on Friday, we'll have a clearer picture of his status after Saturday's morning skate.
