Sandin left during the Leafs' Tuesday night win against Tampa after he suffered an apparent neck injury. At the time, Sheldon Keefe said that he needed more time to be re-evaluated. Following today's afternoon game against the Flyers, Keefe provided an update on Sandin.
"The break is going to be really important for him. Once we come back, we should have a better sense of precisely where he is at. He's not going to play the first game back (in St. Louis on the 27th) for sure. Going to be a bit of a process for him."
It sounds like Sandin will be out at least the first couple of games after the break, but hopefully the injury won't carry to the new year. It's unfortunate for Sandin, who has been stellar in recent weeks, but the silver lining is that the Leafs haven't placed him on LTIR, which means there's a good chance that Sandin will not miss much time. In the meantime, it will be next man up, as usual.
